I’ve been working in IBD since 2003.
As a clinician and a scientist I see the urgent unmet needs of my patients, and I get to work on some of the solutions. My core goal is simply to improve outcomes for people living with IBD.
Atomic IBD is where I translate what’s changing in IBD into something the whole community can use: clinicians and researchers, patients and families, and the people building the next generation of treatments and services.
Most of what I write is clinical and scientific. It covers new drugs and the pipeline, the trials that change practice, monitoring and data, and what we bring home from the big congresses. Some of it is personal, because the life around the work shapes the work. Atomic IBD Uncut, my short one-take videos, is on YouTube.
I’m Professor of Gastroenterology at the University of Edinburgh and a Consultant Gastroenterologist with NHS Lothian. I lead the Edinburgh IBD research group and I’m Chief Investigator of PREdiCCt, the UK-wide study of what drives IBD flares.
I also run a lot.
